Tibetan Snow Cocks seen above Gorak Shep
Halfway up Kala Pattar and we can see Everest now
Approaching the summit of Kala Pattar. As you can see the ascent is little more than a walk, albeit very demanding. Pumori is in the background.
The view of Everest that everyone comes to see from the summit of Kala Pattar
Here we see (l-r) Everest West Shoulder, Mount Everest 8850m, Lhotse 8414m (only just visible) and Nuptse 7861m.
Looking down at the Everest Base Camp area on the Khumbu Glacier. We can just make out some yellow tents, shown enlarged inset lower left.
That's me on the summit of Kala Pattar 5623m/18192ft.
Kala Pattar is a peak on the ridge that leads up to Pumori 7145m that you can see behind me
